Take a Tour with Us

Beaufort County is filled with historical treasures to discover from eras gone-by.  From the early colonial days, the Antebellum ,(pre-Civil War days), the War Between the States, the Reconstruction Era and the Civil Rights Movement.

As Political Science and History majors , we are huge fans of history, especially that of our local area . As Gullah people we love our history, culture and traditions and are passionate about sharing it with everyone with an interest.  Allow us to show you the historical buildings, waterways, as well as the plants and animals in our community.  Sing songs and hear stories around a campfire.  Enjoy a meal in the tradition of the Gullah foodways. Email us through our Visit Us page to receive information about prices, dates and booking a tour.

We'll share information about McTureus and Coffin Point Plantations, visit a nearby praise house, a cemetary, and a local plantation community.  Returning to the farm for a campfire, local stories and songs.

Military Tour

As a retired military family we'll take you to the Navy Hospital Beaufort Base to see the location of Fort Frederick at Camp Saxton where the reading of the Emancipation Proclamation took place  January 1, 1863 .    Our next stop will be Parris Island Recruit Depot where we'll take a drive around the base, tour the Marine Corps Museum, and walk the  archeological trail.

Fishing

Fishing is a great pastime but it was a way of life for so many Gullah people.  Join us for a few hours fishing in some of our favorite places in the area.  The local creeks and landings, piers, and shorelines are ready to welcome you so you can cast a net or a line in the water.  We'll supply the tackle and bait but you're welcome to bring your own.

The fishing pier at Hunting Island State Park Nature Center is a great spot and you can tour the nature center itself.  Restrooms are nearby and a walking trail takes you into the state park.

Educational and unforgettable

"If you have the chance to visit Belinda and Tony - do it! You won’t regret it!

We were warmly welcomed and shown to our camping pitch. Straight away Belinda helped us get food from a nearby restaurant and Tony helped us build a campfire. This set the tone for the rest of the stay. We felt incredibly welcome the whole time and it was a genuine pleasure getting to know Tony and Belinda.

I would highly recommend the historical tour with Tony and Belinda. We visited the Penn Centre and learned about the important purpose it has served over the years. We saw a house once occupied by Dr. MLK Jr., and visited a Praise House. From talking with Tony and Belinda we learned a great deal about Gullah culture and tradition.

The next day we helped Tony on the farm in return for a fishing trip. It was an unbelievable experience. In the evening we learned how to prepare fish and shrimp and we all ate a beautiful meal together.

I can’t recommend Belinda and Tony enough. Truly a once in a lifetime experience!"
