Fresh from the Field

Going out in the field in the morning and evening is part of the daily farm routine.  Loading small buckets in the tractor bucket along with tools and then dring out to being the chores ranging from weeding, picking, inspecting, watering, and feeding more compost.

This morning we picked squash, bell peppers and tomatoes. We have several varieties of tomatoes; both heirloom and hybrids.  The heirloom tomatoes are full of flavor and tend to be less attractive. They are great for slicing and adding to sandwiches especially a Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato (BLT).  A favorite here on the farm is a tomato and mayo sandwich on oatmeal bread with feta cheese.  Yum!

The squash plants are healthy and beautiful.  We have the favorites,  raven zucchini and yellow summer squash both straight and crooked neck, along with the gray variety. All are fantastic for grilling , salads, casseroles, and stir fry dishes. Zucchini makes a delicious bread too!

Soon our eggplant will be ready and that is another grilling favorite.  The beautiful flowers of the eggplant are a preview of the what's to come.

The cucumbers are in full swing and the corn is still available.  We're already preparing to plant more corn to keep everyone happy.

The spinach and swiss chard offer tasty , leafy greens that make a crips salad ingredient or a cool refreshing smoothie.

We hope you are enjoying the variety of produce available from Morning Glory Homestead.  "We plant to please!". Place and order with us soon. Send us an email, in box us on our Facebook page or give us a call.
